Philippians 2:1-8 (ASV)

1 If there is therefore any exhortation in Christ, if any consolation of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any tender mercies and compassions,

2 make full my joy, that ye be of the same mind, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind;

3 doing nothing through faction or through vainglory, but in lowliness of mind each counting other better than himself;

4 not looking each of you to his own things, but each of you also to the things of others.

5 Have this mind in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

6 who, existing in the form of God, counted not the being on an equality with God a thing to be grasped,

7 but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men;

8 and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, becoming obedient even unto death, yea, the death of the cross.

What a blessing to be in such unity in the Lord and share the same love. For God’s people unity is one of the expressions of having the same love for God and one another.
Yes we all need to take care of our individual and family interests but that doesn’t mean we should not ignore the interests of our brothers and sister in Christ. Looking our for each others interests in the church is another expression of love. This reminded me of “John 13:35 (ASV) By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.”
Esteeming others better than oneself is a sign of humility and is again an expression of love. Verses 5 to 8  show us to follow the example of Jesus and how He demonstrated His love and humility. The following verses emphasis the need to walk in love and therefore humility.

Mark 10:42-45 (ASV)

42 And Jesus called them to him, and saith unto them, Ye know that they who are accounted to rule over the Gentiles lord it over them; and their great ones exercise authority over them.

43 But it is not so among you: but whosoever would become great among you, shall be your minister;

44 and whosoever would be first among you, shall be servant of all.

45 For the Son of man also came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

Luke 14:11 (ASV) For every one that exalteth himself shall be humbled; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

James 4:6 (ASV) But he giveth more grace. Wherefore the scripture saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble.

Ephesians 5:1-2 (ASV)

1 Be ye therefore imitators of God, as beloved children;

2 and walk in love, even as Christ also loved you, and gave himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for an odor of a sweet smell.

So let us make it our aim to always walk in love resulting in unity, care for each other and humility.
