Dwelling In The Secret Place – 2024.03.23

Psalms 91:1-16 (KJV)

1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

2 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.

4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;

6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.

7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.

8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.

9 Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;

10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.

13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.

14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.

15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.

16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.

This psalm is so full of promises of God which are available to everyone. They promise that we don’t need to fear, that we are protected, that we are not alone and have a long life and salvation.
These promises are conditional on us.
The conditions are:
• Dwelling in Gods presence verses 1 & 9 when we dwell we can abide, that is remain there.
• Telling and making Him our refuge verses 2 & 9.
• Telling and putting our trust in Him verse 2.
• Loving Jesus
• Knowing Jesus
When we hear the gospel of Jesus Christ it also has a condition that we believe, call on Jesus and as a result repent. Through this we are placed into God’s family and become His children. As His children we become part of God’s household and therefore can dwell and abide in His presence. Now we can start meeting these conditions. As children we all still have a choice to meet these requirements. For example we can let our love for God to grow cold.

Revelation 2:4-5 (KJV)

4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.

5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.

As His dear children we start to getting know our God (Father, Jesus the son and the Holy Spirit our helper and teacher). As we grow and walk with Him we can get to know Him more and more.

Philippians 3:9-12 (KJV)

9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;

11 If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.

12 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.

None of us have arrived but we are to keep going to know Him more and more and as we get to know Him more our love for Him will increase.
By knowing and loving Him our desire to sit at His feet increases we dwell more and more in His presence and thereby getting to know Him more and more. It is a continuous cycle of growth. Now the reveres it true also allowing us to drift away as we looked at Jeremiah 2:13 on the 20/3/24 and Hebrews 2:1-4 on the 21/3/24.

Hebrews 12:1-2 (KJV)

1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Let us encourage each other (we all need it) to draw near to Him, put our trust in Him, taking refuge in Him and make it our aim to know and love Him more every day.
