Hebrews 12:1-2 (KJV)

1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

This is how we run the race that God called us to:
• Laying aside every weight and sin so we wont be ensnared. We do this by

James 4:7-8 (KJV)

7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

• Running with endurance: Revelation 2:3 (KJV) And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name’s sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted.

Long suffering is a fruit of the Holy Spirit and we need to let the Lord develop James 1:3 (KJV) Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
• Looking to Jesus, keeping our eyes on Him and not the things that distract. Following His example of endurance.
• Being joyful that our names are written in the book of life Luke 10:20b (KJV) …; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.
• Run with humility James 4:6 (KJV) But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
• Imitate Jesus and walk in love more and more. Ephesians 5:1-2 (KJV)

1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;

2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.
• Encourage one another Hebrews 10:24-25 (KJV)

24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:

25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
And we could go on and on but if we heed Hebrews 12:1-2 we will run well because everything else comes from that as we look unto Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.
