How To Become And Stay Undefiled – 2024.04.20

Psalms 119:1-6 (KJV)
1 ALEPH. Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD.
2 Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart.
3 They also do no iniquity: they walk in his ways.
4 Thou hast commanded us to keep thy precepts diligently.
5 O that my ways were directed to keep thy statutes!
6 Then shall I not be ashamed, when I have respect unto all thy commandments.
Reading through this Psalm brings us face to face with the challenge of living a holy and undefiled life. For us to enable us to do that the LORD has provided His Word (the written word and the living word which is Jesus) to us. We are exhorted to:

  • Love His Word Psalms 119:97 (KJV) MEM. O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day. Psalms 119:92 (KJV) Unless thy law had been my delights, I should then have perished in mine affliction..
  • Let the Holy Spirit teach us His Word Psalms 119:68 (KJV) Thou art good, and doest good; teach me thy statutes. Psalms 119:33 (KJV) HE. Teach me, O LORD, the way of thy statutes; and I shall keep it unto the end..
  • To think about His Word all day Psalms 119:97 (KJV) MEM. O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day. Psalms 119:15 (KJV) I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways..
  • To treasure in our hearts, know and remember His Word Psalms 119:11 (KJV) Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. Psalms 119:79 (KJV) Let those that fear thee turn unto me, and those that have known thy testimonies..
  • To gain understanding and revelation from His Word Psalms 119:18 (KJV) Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law..
  • To follow and obey His Word Psalms 119:2-4 (KJV) 2 Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart. 3 They also do no iniquity: they walk in his ways. 4 Thou hast commanded us to keep thy precepts diligently..
  • To use His Word for our step by step guidance Psalms 119:105 (KJV) NUN. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Psalms 119:5-6 (KJV) 5 O that my ways were directed to keep thy statutes! 6 Then shall I not be ashamed, when I have respect unto all thy commandments.……

Be cause we are born in sin and therefore defiled it is for us impossible to be undefiled by our own efforts. But we can be thankful to the LORD for He has made a way and the way is Jesus Christ. It is the way of the cross. His death and resurrection that makes salvation possible for all who believe. When we believe in the good news and have turned from our sins toward GOD, we can pray:
Psalms 119:36-38 (KJV)
36 Incline my heart unto thy testimonies, and not to covetousness.
37 Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity; and quicken thou me in thy way.
38 Stablish thy word unto thy servant, who is devoted to thy fear.
And the LORD will answer and help us to walk in His ways
Psalms 119:133 (KJV) Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.
He has provided the means of guidance through His Word and the power to walk by His Holy Spirit.
Psalms 119:176 (KJV) I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek thy servant; for I do not forget thy commandments.
We can see that David’s desire was to live an undefiled life but the conclusion was that He missed the mark and gone astray multiple times just like us. Thank GOD that He remained to be one GOD’s sheep in his wandering. His desire was still for the LORD, but his flesh failed him. The LORD, as the good Shepherd, sought him out and brought Him back.
When we miss the mark, go astray, not rejecting Him and His Word, we can be assured that He is there bring us back to Himself, cleaning us up and putting us back on the right path.
Let us stick close to Jesus, not wander and therefore do what it says in Psalms 119:11 (KJV) Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. And in Psalms 119:30 (KJV) I have chosen the way of truth: thy judgments have I laid before me.
Let us pray Psalms 119:33 (KJV) HE. Teach me, O LORD, the way of thy statutes; and I shall keep it unto the end.
