Choose Life – 2024.04.26

Jeremiah 38:17-18 (KJV)
17 Then said Jeremiah unto Zedekiah, Thus saith the LORD, the God of hosts, the God of Israel; If thou wilt assuredly go forth unto the king of Babylon’s princes, then thy soul shall live, and this city shall not be burned with fire; and thou shalt live, and thine house:
18 But if thou wilt not go forth to the king of Babylon’s princes, then shall this city be given into the hand of the Chaldeans, and they shall burn it with fire, and thou shalt not escape out of their hand.
Here Zedekiah had to make a choice and the LORD outlined the consequences of that choice. Regrettably the king choose not to surrender to the king of Babylon.
GOD gives everyone a choice. He has given free will to all. Deuteronomy 30:19 (KJV) I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: In that He tells us in advance the outcome of our choices. Have a look at Deuteronomy 28:1-68 which lists the Blessings for Obedience  and the Curses for Disobedience.
As we saw yesterday in the Way-maker – 2024.04.25 devotion on John 3:16-21,36 (KJV) we have a choice. When we hear the gospel we either can act on it in two ways with the resulting consequences of that choice (John 3:18 (KJV) He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.):

  • Believe in Jesus that is Obey the gospel (BELIEVE: John 3:16 (KJV) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life., CALL: Romans 10:13 (KJV) For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. And REPENT: Acts 3:19 (KJV) Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;) or
  • Not believe in Jesus  that is to Disobey the gospel (reject it).

Thank GOD that when we make the wrong choice He is patient and long suffering with us so that we repent as long as we live Romans 2:4 (KJV) Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance? Let us not use this as an excuse to choose death in the hope to repent later.
Let us choose to believe in Jesus Christ, His death and resurrection and act accordingly,
Every day let us choose life, and let His will for us be our food in following Jesus Christ who sent us to do His work. John 4:34 (KJV) Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.
