John 6:28-29 (KJV)
28 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?
29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.
John 6:35-40 (KJV)
35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
36 But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not.
37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.
38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.
39 And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.
40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.
John 6:44-48 (KJV)
44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
45 It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.
46 Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father.
47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
48 I am that bread of life.
In the devotion https://missioncommunities.network/2024/04/27/hearing-and-believing-2024-04-27/ we discovered that “seeing is believing” is a lie and in verse 36 we see that even those who have seen Jesus and witnessed the miracles like in chapter six the multiplication of bread loaves that they did not believe.
So what is needed to believe? In verse 37 we discover that it is imitated but GOD the Father. “All that the Father giveth me shall come to me”. This is reiterated in verses 44 and 45 “No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him” because He teaches us, opens our, ears to hear, eyes to see and heart to believe “they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.” It is what Jesus explained when Peter declared “Matthew 16:16-17 (KJV) 16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. 17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.”
When we believe (our faith is a gift of GOD), GOD promise us:
- Verse 35 “he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.”
- Verse 37 “him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.”
- Verse 39 “all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.”
- Verse 40 “believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.”
- Verse 44 “I will raise him up at the last day.”. Repeating this promise twice within a few verse means it is very important for us to know and understand.
- Verse 45 “they shall be all taught of God”
- Verse 47 “He that believeth on me hath everlasting life”. Here again the promise of eternal live with Jesus Christ is repeated.
In verse 28 and 29 we discover what our work should be and it is simply to believe. Out of that faith we follow Jesus. Jesus said “I am that bread of life”. Therefore let us partake of Him, continue in the faith, He has given us, no mater what. He will take care of us. And let us pray that GOD the Father will reveal Jesus Christ to our family, friends and neighbours so that they might believe and partake of Him Who is the bread of live to receive the gift of eternal live.
