Forgiveness needs to be followed by repentance – 2024.04.30

John 8:1-11 (KJV)
1 Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.
2 And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.
3 And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst,
4 They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.
5 Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?
6 This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.
7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
8 And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.
9 And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?
11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
People are so easy to condemn others but when confronted with their own sin they are silenced. Thank GOD for His infinite love, mercy and grace that He demonstrated through Jesus Christ. He made a way through the cross, the sacrifice, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, to forgive any sin (with the exception of the unforgivable sin – maybe a topic for another time Luke 12:10 (KJV) And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven.)
GOD does not want us to remain in a state where we keep on sinning as sin brings destruction and death as we see it so clearly in a fallen world “Romans 5:12 (KJV) Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:”.
In Mark 4:12 we see that forgiveness and conversion/turing to GOD/repentance are linked.
“Mark 4:12 (KJV) That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.” Here converted is G1994 in Strong and the Greek:
ἐπιστρέφω
epistrephō
ep-ee-stref’-o
From G1909 and G4762; to revert (literally, figuratively or morally): – come (go) again, convert, (re-) turn (about, again).]
And Acts 8:22 (KJV) says it clearly: “Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee.”
Have a read of Romans 6:1-14 it talks about grace, and sin. That we should not use GOD’s grace as an excuse to keep on sinning or receive more grace but that we should consider ourselves dead to sin. For if we are dead to sin we are free from it. We are not to give in to sin and not let sin have dominion over us because we are under GOD’s grace.
John puts it all together very clearly
“1 John 1:7-10 (KJV)
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.”
Let us run the race together, encourage one another to be strong in the LORD. It is by His grace alone that we have victory over sin and we are to submit ourself to GOD, not wanting to sin anymore and He will give us the power to overcome “James 4:7 (KJV) Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
Thank GOD for His great mercies to all who call on His name. We call on Him because we believe in Jesus Christ the Messiah, GOD the Son: “John 8:24 (KJV) I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.”
“Romans 4:8 (KJV) Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.”
