Psalms 139:23-24 (KJV)
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:
24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
The Lord already knows us inside out as we saw in this psalm.
This is more an invitation for God to reveal to us our wickedness, our faults, our anxieties, what we treasure and then to lead us to repentance away from the bad and into obedience to Him, to walk in His ways not ours.
Lord help us to desire you more than anything else, not to lust after what the world offers because that never satisfies only you truly satisfy for eternity.
He knows us so well because He created us and knows us inside and out.
“Psalms 139:14 (KJV) I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.”
“Psalms 139:17 (KJV) How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!”
He is the one who designed and created us. Marvellous are His works. His thought to us are precious. “Jeremiah 29:11 (KJV) For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”
“Psalms 138:7-8 (KJV) Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou wilt revive me: thou shalt stretch forth thine hand against the wrath of mine enemies, and thy right hand shall save me. 8 The LORD will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O LORD, endureth for ever: forsake not the works of thine own hands.”
It is the LORD who will save us. Jesus Christ has justified us because of what He did on the cross and our faith in Him. He is the one who is perfecting us. He is the one who shows mercy to our frailty and will not abandon the work He started in us.
Therefore let us open up our hearts to Him willingly (he already knows anyhow, nothing is hidden for Him). Let us surrender to Him and repent. Let us be like the clay in the potter hands. Let us not resist or abort the process of sanctification that He started in us but willingly cooperate with Him and pray “Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”
