Proverbs 3:1-12 (KJV)
1 My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:
2 For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.
3 Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:
4 So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.
5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.
8 It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.
9 Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:
10 So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.
11 My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction:
12 For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.
We are exhorted to remember GOD’s ways, His law, and keep what He has commanded us in our heart. It is not just remembering them but understanding them and actually letting our heart be transformed that that is how we think. From this we will act with mercy and not letting go of truth because it is convenient. Our heart will be full of mercy and truth and we will demonstrate it in what we say and do. By letting our mind being transformed by the Word of God. “Romans 12:2 (KJV) And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”. When we do that we end up:
• Acknowledging Jesus Christ in all what we do,
• Trusting in GOD even if things don’t make sense and we don’t understand what is happening and what He is doing,
• Honouring the LORD with what He as given us by giving to: His work, orphans, widow and those in need,
• Not be proud, thinking we are wise in ourself (true wisdom comes form GOD),
• Fear GOD by honouring, being in awe of Him, putting Him first and obeying Him (all this, not in pretence to benefit from Him) and
• Not despising when the LORD corrects us. Because we are a work in progress, we need correction when we wear off the path GOD wants us to walk on. This is all because GOD loves us and does not want us to miss out.
When we do all this and keep our heart soft, are teachable, yielding to GOD’s will and ways, He promised us:
• Long life,
• Peace,
• Favour with GOD and people,
• To direct/lead us,
• To give us health,
• To provide what we need and more
Let us remember and walk in His ways.
