Hearing and keeping His word – 2025.05.25

Proverbs 4:20-27 (KJV)
20 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.
21 Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.
22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.
23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.
24 Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.
25 Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.
26 Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.
27 Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.
Continuing on from yesterdays devotion about The blessings of remembering and obeying – 2024.05.24 https://missioncommunities.network/2024/05/24/the-blessings-of-remembering-and-obeying-2024-05-24/ we can see here that it all starts with hearing the word as it says “incline thine ear unto my sayings”. In Romans 10:17 (KJV) it says “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”. To hear the Word of God there needs to be someone to share the Word of God “Romans 10:14-15 (KJV) How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!”. When we hear the Word of God we need to give attention to what He is saying “My son, attend to my words”. When we pay attention GOD can give us faith to believe in His Word. When we come to believe then we start to act on it. One action is our confession of faith “Romans 10:8-11 (KJV) But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. Romans 10:13 (KJV) For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”. It is calling on the LORD for Him to do what He has promised to those who believe, i.e. salvation. Then it is our responsibility to keep the Word of God close to our hearts and protect our heart, as it says in verse 23. Out of faith comes repentance a truing away from sin and turning towards GOD, as we can see in verse 24. Repentance is a putting away a putting off and also a putting on “Romans 13:12-14 (KJV) The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. 13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. 14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.”.
We have to be single minded and not let ourself be distracted considering the way we walk and make adjustments as guided by the wog, as shown in verses 25-27. “Psalms 119:105 (KJV) NUN. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”. Repentance is not a once off thing. We have to keep removing our foot from evil when we make the wrong step.
Therefore let us always do as it says in verses 20 to 21 “.. attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.” By hearing, reading and knowing the Word of God and then believing and obeying it, we can be assured by what it says in verse 22 “For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.”
