Romans 13:11-14 (KJV)
11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.
12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.
13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.
14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.
Jesus Christ is coming for us soon. Today we are one day closer than yesterday. We are exhorted to wake up. There is not time to sleep. The “Bible Knowledge” commentary states “It is a time, therefore, for spiritual vigilance and industriousness”. We need to be alert. When we are in a spiritual sleep we can watch. “1 Corinthians 16:13-14 (KJV) Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong. 14 Let all your things be done with charity.” “Luke 21:34-36 (KJV) And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares. 35 For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth. 36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.”. We need to be watchful for attacks of the enemy trying to deceive us, trying to cause us to sin, trying to make us fall, … and stand strong in our faith as the world goes deeper into darkness. Making no provision for the flesh is being wise and avoiding things and situations that cause the flesh to sin as well as bing on guard and protecting ourself from evil. Therefore we need the armour of light for in the light no darkness can dwell. Putting on the armour of light is putting on the LORD Jesus Christ (see verse 14 and it is written in “John 8:12 (KJV) Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” ). Putting on the armour of light is a daily thing and can be linked to also taking up our cross daily “Luke 9:23 (KJV) And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.”. Also have a read of Ephesians 6:10-18 to know more about Jesus as our amour. When we do that, we can stay awake, be watchful, being alert and standing fast. Our walk will the be more and more Christ like, walking properly before the LORD, doing what is good and not evil, walking in the Spirit “Galatians 5:16 (KJV) This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.”
“1 Peter 2:21-25 (KJV) For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: 22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: 23 Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously: 24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. 25 For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.”
