Proverbs 15:1-2 (KJV)
1 A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.
2 The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.
Here on earth we can be guaranteed to encounter situation where we face someone who is angry. The question is what should we do? In Matthew 5:9 (KJV) it says “Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.”. Here we have one of the keys to be a peacemaker. When someone is angry or upset, we as children of GOD, should know how to extinguish the fire. When one adds more fuel and or air to a fire it will get bigger when one removes fuel and or pours water on it and or covers it to restrict air the fire will get smaller and over time extinguish. So it is with anger. We are not aggravate it by speaking painful, hurtful, aggravating words. On the contrary we are to speak softly, tenderly, delicately. Our words should bring healing and not dig like a knife deep into the wound. “Proverbs 12:18 (KJV) There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health.” And “Proverbs 16:24 (KJV) Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.”. This requires not human wisdom but wisdom from GOD. “James 1:5 (KJV) If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”. If at the time we do not know what to do and say it is best to be quiet. That way no more fuel get added to the fine. GOD gives us good advise in “James 1:19-20 (NKJV) So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; 20 for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.” “Proverbs 15:28 (KJV) The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.”. And “Proverbs 15:18 (NKJV) A wrathful man stirs up strife, But he who is slow to anger allays contention.”. Therefore lets stay cool, pray and ask the LORD to help be a peacemaker showing us what to do and giving us the words to speak that produced the righteousness of GOD.
Let us aim to always be peacemakers (fire extinguisher) rather than instigators or catalyst or agitators (fire bugs or feed a fire). “Proverbs 15:4 (NKJV) A wholesome tongue is a tree of life, But perverseness in it breaks the spirit.”
