Matthew 28:18-20 (ASV)
18 And Jesus came to them and spake unto them, saying, All authority hath been given unto me in heaven and on earth.
19 Go ye therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit:
20 teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.
The great commission gives us the last marching orders from Jesus to all His followers. We all have different parts to play in this. All the things Jesus Christ instructed us to do are not done by our own authority using our own abilities but we are to do them under and in His authority and by the abilities, gifts and talents He gives us. He is the one working through us. He is the head and we are His body i.e. His hands and feet.
Today let us last part of His instructions.
He promised to be with us always and anywhere we go on His mission.
“Hebrews 13:5-6 (ASV) Be ye free from the love of money; content with such things as ye have: for himself hath said, I will in no wise fail thee, neither will I in any wise forsake thee. 6 So that with good courage we say, The Lord is my helper; I will not fear: What shall man do unto me?”. He is our shepherd and takes care of us “John 10:11 (ASV) I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd layeth down his life for the sheep.” And have a read of Psalms 23. We have a relationship with Him. He knows us and we know Him “John 10:14 (ASV) I am the good shepherd; and I know mine own, and mine own know me,”. We are not alone “John 14:16-18 (ASV) And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may be with you for ever, 17 even the Spirit of truth: whom the world cannot receive; for it beholdeth him not, neither knoweth him: ye know him; for he abideth with you, and shall be in you. 18 I will not leave you desolate: I come unto you.”. Jesus is in us by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit and works in us mightily. “Colossians 1:26-29 (ASV) even the mystery which hath been hid for ages and generations: but now hath it been manifested to his saints, 27 to whom God was pleased to make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: 28 whom we proclaim, admonishing every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ; 29 whereunto I labor also, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily.”
On top of that Jesus placed us in a body, His body, the Church. Where He gave a variety of gifts, ministries and activities. We need each other for support, encouragement, exhortation, etc.. So we can work together fulfilling the great commission. When Jesus Christ was training His disciples in the mission He sent them out not alone “Mark 6:7 (ASV) And he calleth unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and he gave them authority over the unclean spirits;” and passed on His authority to do His work. Have a read of 1 Corinthians chapter 12 about gifts and the body of Christ. When we gather together we grow, encourage each other, learn from each other, discover/practice/use the gifts GOD has given us, exhort one another, pray for own another, etc.. This equips us to go and do the work of the ministry to those we meet in our day to day life or when we go out as a team to do mission work.
Let us always know when Jesus asks us to do something that He promised “lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.”
