Vanity and hope – 2024.06.21

Ecclesiastes 1:2-3 (KJV)
2 Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.
3 What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun?
When we look at the world and it pursuits one will easily be disillusioned. In the end, it is all in vain, it will all pass away. “John 16:33 (KJV) These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
On the other had if we fix our eyes on Jesus and His Kingdom there is hope and purpose.
Colossians 3:1-4 (KJV) If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. 2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.
We are in this world but not of it “John 17:14 (KJV) I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.”. Yes we need to work, eat, have shelter, etc.. We need to take care of things here but our focus is on Jesus as He Himself said “Matthew 6:33 (KJV) But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
In the world there is no hope and future after death and the pursuits here are vanity but in Christ we have an eternal purpose “Jeremiah 29:11 (KJV) For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”. If we are in Christ then here on earth we are prepared for eternity with Him. He has called us to be kings, priests and judges “Revelation 1:6 (KJV) And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.”, “1 Corinthians 6:2 (KJV) Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?” And there is so much more that awaits us, we even can’t imagine it.
