Watch and pray – 2024.06.24

Mark 14:38 (KJV) Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.
Jesus asked His followers, while He was in the garden of Gethsemane, to watch multiple times. Part of watching is prayer. We need to be alert so we can see temptation coming from far off and therefore pray that we do not enter be lead to temptation. “Matthew 6:13 (KJV) And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.”. The way to do that is to:

  • Submit to GOD and resist “James 4:7 (KJV) Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”.
  • Be watchful and on the alert so we are not surprised and therefore can pray, submit to GOD and resist “1 Corinthians 16:13 (KJV) Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.”.
  • Avoid and flee from situations that we know we are weak in and could cause us to stumble “1 Timothy 6:11-12 (KJV) But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. 12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.
  • To watch and avoid stumbling we need to be able to see clearly which requires day light “John 11:9 (KJV) Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world.” And Jesus is the light of the world. “John 12:46 (KJV) I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.”

Therefore let us be watchful and pray. Standing firm in our faith by always believing in, trusting in, following, submitting to Jesus Christ. “Hebrews 10:23 (KJV) Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)” always knowing that He is faithful. As it is written in 1 Thessalonians 5:24 (KJV) “Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.”.
