Ephesians 1:3-6 (KJV)
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:
4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:
5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,
6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.
GOD blessed us and we are to bless Him by giving Him all honour, glory, praise, devotion, obedience, … “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ”.
Here the LORD tells us how He blessed us. His blessing is eternal and is for past present and future.
First, He has chosen us right in the beginning of creation when He laid the foundation of the world. He has chosen us for a purpose. Part of this purpose is for us to be:
• Holy as He is holy
• Blameless
• His adopted children
• Accepted in the beloved
All of it is because of the great love that GOD has which He wants to share and pour out and for His praise to demonstrate His glorious grace!
Second, He has redeemed us. “Ephesians 1:7 (KJV) In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;” He made this possible through the cross “John 3:16-18 (KJV) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”
Third and fourth, He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding. “Ephesians 1:8 (KJV) Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence;”. It is His own wisdom, demonstrated through the cross, which He revealed to us which is so different to the words wisdom (1 Corinthians 1:18-25).
Fifth, He made known the mystery of His will and fulfil His plan. “Ephesians 1:9 (KJV) Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself:”. This mystery is who Jesus Christ is and His work on the cross brining the redemption to all who believe not being of works of men but being the work of GOD “Matthew 16:17 (KJV) And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.”.
Sixth, He has given us an inheritance “Ephesians 1:11-14 (KJV) In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: 12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. 13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.” One part of the inheritance He left with us is His peace “John 14:27 (KJV) Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
These blessings do not mean that all will be well with us here on earth but that we have a hope and a future with Jesus for eternity.
Believe in Jesus Christ, His work on the cross and call on Him “Romans 10:13 (KJV) For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”, that you might know Him and the blessings He has prepared right from the beginning.
Let us therefore put our trust in Jesus Christ our Redeemer, Saviour, KING and LORD.
Let us thank and bless the LORD our GOD, our Father and Jesus Christ our redeemer!
