Ecclesiastes 7:1 (KJV) A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one’s birth.
Keeping one’s word will result in a good name. By this we are found trustworthy. In proverbs it tells us that a good name and favour with people than riches “Proverbs 22:1 (KJV) A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.”.
Jesus Himself said in Matthew 5:37 (KJV) “But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.”
When we are people of the word others can rely on us. This is a demonstration of GOD’s character in our life. “2 Corinthians 1:20 (KJV) For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.”. There is therefore no uncertainty.
On the other hand the LORD warns us not to associate with people who are given to change. That is, people who change things to suit themself not matter on the impact of others. “Proverbs 24:21-22 (KJV) My son, fear thou the LORD and the king: and meddle not with them that are given to change: 22 For their calamity shall rise suddenly; and who knoweth the ruin of them both?” Keeping one word is a demonstration of love, it can cost oneself but benefit the other.
There are times when things are out of our control and we can not keep our word due to things that’s are out of our control. For example we promise to pick someone up at a certain time but the car breaks down. In these circumstances if possible we should communicate and Le the other affected parties know. Let us always aim to keep a good name and be good examples to those around us.
Let us encourage one another to be people of our word, being trustworthy and demonstrating Christs love.
