Finding out what pleases the LORD – 2024.07.04

Ephesians 5:17 (KJV) Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
Here again (chapter 5) we can see the continuance of chapter 4 to put off sin and put on what is good instead (see “Putting off and putting on – 2024.07.04” https://missioncommunities.network/2024/07/04/putting-off-and-putting-on-2024-07-04/).
To help us in this, we are advised, actually instructed, to understand what GOD wants us to do. Understanding GOD’s will and doing it is very wise.
In Ephesians 5:8-11 (KJV) it says “For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: 9 (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;) 10 Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord. 11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.”
We see that we have been translated from the kingdom of darkness to the Kingdom of Light. Because of this whatever we do should reflect the Kingdom we are in.
In verse 10 we are told to find out, discover, what is acceptable to the LORD. When we are born again by the Spirit of the LORD our desire is to please Him and therefore to do what is acceptable to Him.
When we have that desire we need to know what the key to understand what GOD’s will is. This is discovery by letting the Word of God wash us by the guidance, revelation, inspiration, and teaching of the Holy Spirit. “Ephesians 5:26 (KJV) That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,”. We see that the Word of God itself, in conjunction with the Holy Spirit, is the key “Psalms 119:105 (KJV) NUN. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”, “Psalms 143:10 (KJV) Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness.”, “John 14:26 (KJV) But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”.
In verse 9 we see three fruits of the Holy Spirit listed: “goodness and righteousness and truth” In Ephesians 5:2 (KJV) it says “And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.”
From this we can find out some examples of what GOD’s desire is for us is. That is to walk in love, grow in and reflects Jesus Christ godliness, righteousness and truth more and more. The bible provides us with the understanding of GOD’s will is and the Holy Spirit empowers us to fulfil His will.
We are all on a journey of discovery. Therefore next time we open the Holy Bible let us ask the Holy Spirit to help us understand and teach us what GOD’s will and the good works He has prepared for us, are and hen as He shows us to help us to be doers of His Word “James 1:22 (KJV) But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.”.
