Faith and suffering – 2024.07.19

Philippians 1:27-29 (KJV)
27 Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;
28 And in nothing terrified by your adversaries: which is to them an evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that of God.
29 For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;
We are encouraged here that we conduct ourself in such a way to reflect the good news of the gospel. One way that we prove that GOD saved us through the gospel is that we stand fast in the gospel, that we can not be shaken and moved form our faith in Jesus Christ. The second is that we are standing together with our brothers and sisters in unity in our faith and do all we can to maintain that unity. “Ephesians 4:2-3 (KJV) With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; 3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” And the third thing is that we are not terrified by the our adversaries. “1 Peter 5:8 (KJV) Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:”
Adversity results usually in suffering and no one who is in Jesus Christ is immune of this. In verse 29 we discover that it has been granted to us to belief in Jesus Christ and the gospel of Christ but also because of that belief we have been granted to suffer for Jesus sake. “James 1:2-4 (KJV) My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; 3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. 4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.”
Therefore let us be encourage to hold on to our faith in Jesus Christ, foster unity with our brothers and sisters and not fear when we face adversity. For no matter what we suffer we can be “…confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: (Philippians 1:6 (KJV))”
