Taming the tongue – 2024.07.25

James 3:8 (KJV) But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
In James chapter 3:1-12 we discover a lot about the tongue. It is small but dangerous and needs to be tamed. Here is the dilemma how can? We can’t but only GOD can.
“Matthew 19:26 (KJV) But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.” This verse refers to how hard it is for rich people to go to heave but Jesus examined that with GOD that is possible. And so it is with the taming of the tongue. Thank GOD that Jesus Christ did not leave us orphans and sent His Holy Spirit to help us. With the empowering of the Holy Spirit our tongue can be tamed and brought into subjection of the Word of God as He does the work of perfection in us – our sanctification.

This starts with the renewing of our mind through the Word of God. When our thoughts are good our words will be good “Philippians 4:8 (KJV) Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” And “Ephesians 4:29 (KJV) Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.”
When our words are full of praise they would come from a mind that is filled with paise.
If we stumble with our tongue (or anything else), thank GOD Jesus Christ is our advocate and we can call on Him to forgive us and then ask Him to help us.
Let us yield to the transforming work of the Holy Spirit so that our conversation be acceptable to Him. “Psalms 19:14 (KJV) Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.”
