Colossians 2:6-8 (KJV)
6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:
7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.
8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
After we have heard and believed in the gospel, the good news of Jesus Christ and the cross, by receiving Jesus we are instructed to walk in Him just in the manner He is showing us. That is walk in what He taught, walk in the Holy Spirit (He has freely given us), following Jesus.
How does this walk look like? It is demonstrated if we are firmly rooted, on Jesus Christ the rock, building our life on Him alone “Matthew 7:24-27 (KJV) Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: 25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. 26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: 27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.”. He is a sure foundation on which we need to establish our faith on. This we do by obeying His teachings and one part of that is being thankful (see verse seven).
When we are building our lives on Jesus Christ the rock we need to beware that we are not tricked by the devil and those who he uses to be dawn back into the ways of the world, religious traditions created by people.
Therefore let us ensure that we are firmly rooted in Jesus our sure foundation, the way the truth and the life, walking in His ways, because if we do that we will beware, we will not be swayed, tricked, cheated and nothing can uproot us. “Hebrews 12:1-2 (KJV) Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
