Acts 8:4 (KJV) Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word.
This scattering of believers happened because of persecution
“Acts 8:1 (KJV) And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles.”
We can see that the apostles were still in Jerusalem but most other believers went abroad because of the increased persecution. With that scattering the command of Jesus was fulfilled by the scattered Christians. “Matthew 28:18-20 (KJV) And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”
Every one of us is called to fulfil part of the great commission. The ministries are given by Jesus (they are gifts to the Church) to train us up, equip us, so we can fulfil our calling to do the work of the ministry. This equipping is often done by discipleship, them leading by example, and teaching. “Ephesians 4:11-16 (KJV) And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: 13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: 14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; 15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: 16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.”
For example: Jesus raises up evangelists to train us to evangelise, to be witnesses wherever we are and the lord sends us and teachers to equip us in the Word of God so we can teach people about Jesus and things like the foundational Christian doctrine. “Hebrews 6:1-2 (KJV) Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, 2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.”
Let us be encouraged every day to be teachable, humble, learn and apply what we learn from Jesus, His ministers and each other to fulfil the work of the ministry with is summed up in the great commission.
