Appeal versus demand – 2024.08.25

Philemon 1:8-9 (KJV)
8 Wherefore, though I might be much bold in Christ to enjoin thee that which is convenient,
9 Yet for love’s sake I rather beseech thee, being such an one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ.

Love doesn’t demand but rather appeals. Leaders have the authority to demand but it is much better to appeal in love and give people a choice. GOD gives us a choice. He doesn’t for us to do anything. He appeals to us to call on Him to be saved and turn from our wicked ways. Whatever we choose we have to live with the consequences. There are both eternal and temporal consequences. Heeding GOD’s appeal to believe in Jesus Christ and repent will lead to live (eternal live in heaven in GOD’s presence) but ignoring and rejecting it to death (eternal separation from GOD in hell).
Let us be encouraged to follow the LORD’s example and imitate Paul by appealing to people instead of demanding. To walk in love as love appeals and is appealing. “1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (KJV) Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, [5] Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; [6] Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; [7] Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.”
