Jonah 4:1-2 (KJV)
1 But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was very angry.
2 And he prayed unto the LORD, and said, I pray thee, O LORD, was not this my saying, when I was yet in my country? Therefore I fled before unto Tarshish: for I knew that thou art a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repentest thee of the evil.
Jonah was not happy because the people of Nineveh repented after Jonah’s prophetic declaration of judgment and GOD didn’t pour out His wrath on the city. He knew GOD’s amazing grace and mercy. He knew that the LORD forgives and shows abundant kindness keeping His anger at bay. Jonah was not a man after GOD’s on heart. He was used by GOD, knew GOD but didn’t agree with GOD’s showing mercy.
This reminds me when the LORD showed Peter in a vision preparing him to share the good new to Cornelius. And his household. “Acts 10:11-15 (ASV) and he beholdeth the heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending, as it were a great sheet, let down by four corners upon the earth: [12] wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts and creeping things of the earth and birds of the heaven. [13] And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill and eat. [14] But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common and unclean. [15] And a voice came unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, make not thou common.”
When we are born again He gives us a new heart “Ezekiel 36:26 (ASV) A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you; and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh.” From this spiritual transformation we start becoming imitators of GOD. “Ephesians 5:1-2 (ASV) Be ye therefore imitators of God, as beloved children; [2] and walk in love, even as Christ also loved you, and gave himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for an odor of a sweet smell.”
This results in us demonstrating His amazing grace to others.
Be encouraged and know that GOD is gracious and merciful God, slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness, One who relents from doing harm giving people an opportunity to turn from their wicked ways and walk in His ways. Therefore let us start to and continue to believe and trust in, and thank the LORD Jesus Chris for His amassing grace and love which He demonstrated on the the cross. “Colossians 1:20-23 (KJV) And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven. [21] And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled [22] In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight: [23] If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;”
