1 Peter 2:9-10 (KJV)
9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
GOD made it possible for people to become His people. To become a chosen generation. To become a royal priest hood. to become a holy nation. To become His own special people.  He did that for many reasons. The main one is because He loves us. Another reason stated here is to proclaim praises to Him. Also He did it to demonstrate His mercy.
The question here is how do we who are not a people of GOD become people of GOD?
How do we get out of darkness into His marvellous light?
The answer is here also, He called us out of the darkness. He took the initiative to make it possible. We just need to obey His call. How do we do that? He made it possible through Jesus Christ. “John 3:16-21 (KJV) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. [17] For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. [18] He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. [19] And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. [20] For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. [21] But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.” Here we have the answers. We come to the light by faith in Jesus Christ. By faith in the good news that GOD has paid the price for our sins in the cross that by faith might might be clean and become His holy nation, His special people. He takes us out of the darkness into His Kingdom of light. Jesus Christ paid the price of sin but detah could not keep Him under and was raised up on the third day from the grave. Because of that He also will raise us up when the time comes. These who are alive will be caught up with Him in the air and those who died physically will be raised up and we all will have new bodies. “1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 (KJV) But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. [14] For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. [15] For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. [16] For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: [17] Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. [18] Wherefore comfort one another with these words.”
Therefore be encouraged now to believe and call on His name that you might become one of GOD’s people if you have not yet done so.
