1 Peter 5:8-11 (KJV)
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.
11 To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
Let us continue with the topic from “Suffering as a Christian is not unusual – 2024.09.16 https://missioncommunities.network/2024/09/16/suffering-as-a-christian-is-not-unusual-2024-09-16/”.
In the end, all suffering is a result from the fall of Adam and Eve in the garden when they sinned. We can thank the LORD Jesus Christ for His work on the cross that through His blood there is forgiveness and removal of sin and that we are brought back into relationship with GOD by faith in Christ. This does not mean that we are immune to the sufferings of sin, and temptation. We are still on this earth and still have our flesh which will be transformed in the future.
In the mean time we need to be steadfast in the faith and resist the devil who tires to drag us back to the old life. We all go through this but thank GOD, He has made a way to walk in victory. He uses this suffering to perfect, establish, strengthen and settle us as well as bringing glory to Himself. To get through these trials we need to focus on Jesus Christ, trusting in and submitting to Him. “James 4:7 (KJV) Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”. He will give us the way to escape “1 Corinthians 10:12-14 (KJV) Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. [13] There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. [14] Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.” Part of that submission is for us to get out of situations and avoid that tempt us and He will give us the strength to do so but we will need to make the decision and stand strong in it. If we fall we can thank GOD for His mercies and call on Him to forgive us and help us to escape in the future praying “Matthew 6:13 (KJV) And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.” Have a read of Psalm 51 that David prayed after he fell into sin with Bathsheba. Here is a quote “Psalms 51:7 (KJV) Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.”
Therefore be encouraged to be and stay sober, vigilant and stand firm in the LORD despite the suffering we may encounter.
