Numbering our days – 2024.10.26

Psalms 90:12-13 (KJV)
12 So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.
13 Return, O LORD, how long? and let it repent thee concerning thy servants.
Usually when reading verse 12 I was relating it to “Psalms 90:10 (KJV) The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.” And that we are to use our time given here on earth wisely. Today verse 13 stood out and gave me another perspective resulting in the same thing, that is to use our time given here on earth wisely but instead of looking to our death looking to the promised return of Jesus Christ to take us home. The bible teaches us in many places that we are to:

  • Walk circumspectly,
  • Redeem the time in these evil days,
  • Being wise,
  • Understand GOD’s will for us,
  • Holding fast to our faith without any doubts,
  • Encourage one another to do the work GOD called us to,
  • Gathering together more and more,
  • Being sober,
  • Being watchful in prayer,
  • Walking in and practicing love,
  • Excercise the works, ministries, and gifts GOD has given us,
  • How we ought to behave,
  • Live godly life’s,
  • Looking ahead for the return of Jesus Christ and
  • Looking for the righteousness in the new heaven and new earth GOD will establish in the end.

Have a read of the following scriptures that this list was derived from. The New Testament if full of these type of instructions. Be encourage today to have the Word of God close to our heart, putting into practice that which we know by the power and ability that Jesus gives us by the Holy Spirit.

“Ephesians 5:14-21 (KJV) Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. [15] See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, [16] Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. [17] Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. [18] And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; [19] Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; [20] Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; [21] Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.”

“Hebrews 10:23-25 (KJV) Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) [24] And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: [25] Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”

“1 Peter 4:7-11 (KJV) But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer. [8] And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins. [9] Use hospitality one to another without grudging. [10] As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. [11] If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.”

“2 Peter 3:11-13 (KJV) Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, [12] Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? [13] Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.”
