Psalms 91:9 (KJV) Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
Here habitation also means dwelling place and refuge. The place we dwell in is our place of habitation. The place we go for safety is our refuge. The questions we need to ask ourself: Where do we dwell? Where do we seek refuge?
Have a read of the whole of Psalm 91. In this psalm we have conditional promises. The condition is outlined in:
“Psalms 91:1-2 (KJV) He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. [2] I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.”
“Psalms 91:9 (KJV) Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;”
“Psalms 91:14 (KJV) Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.”
Here we see we are to have a regular, continuous, consistent, relationship with Jesus Christ not only call on Him when we are in need or trouble. It is not because of duty we are in communion with Him (v1) but because of how much we trust Him (v2), how much we love Him (v14). It s time spent in secret with Him “Matthew 6:6 (KJV) But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.”. Time in secret are also our thought, where does our mind and heart dwell thought the day? “1 Thessalonians 5:17 (KJV) Pray without ceasing.” The Devender’s Study Bible Commentary examines it like this “The Greek word rendered “without ceasing” means “continuously” (i.e., repeated frequently), rather than “continually” (i.e., never stopping).”
How do we make the LORD GOD our refuge? It is by deciding and putting our faith and trust in Jesus Christ. This is the initial step to make the GOD of creation our dwelling place. It is a journey we need to commence and then continue on.
Let us be encouraged today and every day to examine our ways, and thoughts as we go through the day and redirect them to Jesus Christ, involve Him in every activity of mind and body. Let us cultivate a love for GOD and His people more and more.
The Treasury of David commentary put it this way “Here we have the Lord himself speaking of his own chosen one. “Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him.” Not because he deserves to be thus kept, but because with all his imperfections he does love his God; therefore not the angels of God only, but the God of angels himself will come to his rescue in all perilous times, and will effectually deliver him.”
We do not deserve this great communion but Jesus Christ Himself made it possible because of His great love for us. “John 3:16-21 (KJV) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. [17] For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. [18] He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. [19] And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. [20] For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. [21] But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.”
Therefore let us decide to come to and remain in the light and draw closer to Him. “Hebrews 10:22-25 (KJV) Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. [23] Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) [24] And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: [25] Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”
