Mark 4:11-12 (KJV)
11 And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables:
12 That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.
Mark 4:33-34 (KJV)
33 And with many such parables spake he the word unto them, as they were able to hear it.
34 But without a parable spake he not unto them: and when they were alone, he expounded all things to his disciples.
Continuing on in the theme of knowledge and understanding from yesterdays devotion “The fool and GOD – 2024.10.28 https://missioncommunities.network/2024/10/28/the-fool-and-god-2024-10-28/” we see in Mark 4 Jesus teaching parables and i.e. paling to His disciples the reason for parables. We can see again that there are two groups one who the LORD GOD reveals the mystery of the Kingdom of God and the other from whom it is hidden. The former group is comprised of people who seek after truth, Jesus Christ (“John 14:6 (KJV) Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”) and the other who reject, deny, and or ignore the truth.
In the Finis Dake commentary it gives us seven reasons for using parables:
- To reveal truth in a form intended to create more interest (Mat 13:10-11, Mat 13:16)
- To make known new truths to interested hearers (Mat 13:11-12, Mat 13:16-17)
- To make known mysteries by comparison with things already known (Mat 13:11)
- To conceal truth from disinterested hearers and rebels at heart (Mat 13:11-15)
- To add truth to those who love it and want more of it (Mat 13:12)
- To take truth away from those who hate and do not want it (Mat 13:12)
- To fulfill prophecy (Mat 13:14-17, Mat 13:35)
Jesus Christ has given us his Holy Spirit to teach us and bring understand of His ways “John 14:25-26 (KJV) These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. [26] But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”, Therefore be encourage to have a teachable and humble heart to learn from Him. This is required as the Kingdom of God goes against and opposes our carnal nature. Let us seek Him and His kingdom 1st “Matthew 6:33 (KJV) But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” and hunger and thirst for Jesus Christ our righteousness “Matthew 5:6 (KJV) Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.”.
