Romans 4:19-21 (KJV)
19 And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara’s womb:
20 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;
21 And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.
Romans 4 talks about Abraham being justified by faith and also received GOD’s promise by faith. Yesterday we saw that the righteousness of GOD is gained by faith. (“https://missioncommunities.network/2024/11/13/righteousness-of-god-2024-11-13/”).
Let us look at Abraham’s faith today. His faith was not weak so it was strong. The evidence of his strong fait is that he did NOT:
- Consider what he knew and saw in the physical realm. “Hebrews 11:1-2 (KJV) Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. [2] For by it the elders obtained a good report.”
- Waver by doubt/unbelief at what GOD has personality promised him. “Hebrews 10:23 (KJV) Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)” (See “https://missioncommunities.network/2024/11/03/wavering-faith-2024-11-03/ and https://missioncommunities.network/2024/11/10/testing-of-the-word-of-god-2024-10-10/”)
Instead he strengthen himself in faith. We need to understand that faith does not deny the facts but faces them and then we believe in what God has said despite the facts. Do not let the facts, what is seen or heard, weaken your faith. How did he strengthen himself in faith?
By giving glory to GOD, he was 100% assured who GOD is and that nothing is too hard for Him and that He is faithful and will always keep His promises. He was totally convinced of this resulting in thanksgiving, praise, worship; which brings glory to GOD.
“Hebrews 11:8-13 (KJV) By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. [9] By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise: [10] For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God. [11] Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised. [12] Therefore sprang there even of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable. [13] These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.”
Here we see a short summary of Abraham’s faith. Some promises he received, others he saw the beginning of with His son Isaac but not the complete fulfilment which we can now clearly see. The important thing is that when we have faith we:
- Are 100% persuaded that what GOD promised will happen.
- Fully embrace GOD’s promise given to us personally.
- Confess GOD’s promise and recognise that we are only temporarily here on earth and eternity awaits us in heaven.
Therefore encouraged today that whatever GOD has personally promised you that He will do it. It all start with the promise of salvation and forgiveness of our sins. Hang in there, “2 Chronicles 32:7-8 (KJV) Be strong and courageous, be not afraid nor dismayed for the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude that is with him: for there be more with us than with him: [8] With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the LORD our God to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.”,
“Romans 8:31-39 (KJV) What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? [32] He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? [33] Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth. [34] Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. [35] Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? [36] As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. [37] Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. [38] For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, [39] Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
