Studying of the bible – 2024.11.16

Psalms 111:2 (KJV) The works of the LORD are great, sought out of all them that have pleasure therein.

Here the the words “sought out of all” are translated “pondered by all” in the NIV and “Studied by all”. That means that all who have pleasure in, delight in the works of GOD will think about, ponder and study them. The study of the bible is our daily food and everyone who is truly born again, through faith in Jesus Christ, loves to study the bible and through that what GOD has done, is doing and will do. Knowledge and obedience of the Word of God are some of the things we dedicate ourself to when following Jesus Christ.

Let us read the whole psalm to discover more on what GOD’s works are:
“Psalms 111:1-10 (KJV) Praise ye the LORD. I will praise the LORD with my whole heart, in the assembly of the upright, and in the congregation. [2] The works of the LORD are great, sought out of all them that have pleasure therein. [3] His work is honourable and glorious: and his righteousness endureth for ever. [4] He hath made his wonderful works to be remembered: the LORD is gracious and full of compassion. [5] He hath given meat unto them that fear him: he will ever be mindful of his covenant. [6] He hath shewed his people the power of his works, that he may give them the heritage of the heathen. [7] The works of his hands are verity and judgment; all his commandments are sure. [8] They stand fast for ever and ever, and are done in truth and uprightness. [9] He sent redemption unto his people: he hath commanded his covenant for ever: holy and reverend is his name. [10] The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.”

In verse 4, we see here that GOD’s works are wonderful and because of this we remember them. How can we forget something that is so wonderful? Therefore let us be encourage to put verses in the bible to memory. We also discover that the LORD GOD is full of grace and compassion and He therefore will not reject us when we come to Him with a humble and repentant heart.

In verse 6 we discover that GOD’s works are powerful. He has given His people an inheritance and we need to know and understand what our inheritance is.

In verse 7 we see that GOD’s works are faithful and just. GOD is the only one who truly is just and faithful and we need to learn from Him as He desires us to emulate Him through the power of His word by the Holy Spirit transforming us to become more Christ like.

The greats work of GOD I believe is redemption as we see in verse 9. Through Jesus Christ He made the way for us to be restored, brought back into relationship with GOD that was lost through the fall and sin of mankind in the beginning. He has given us the gospel of Christ to be redeemed.

“1 Peter 1:18-25 (KJV) Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; [19] But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: [20] Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, [21] Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God. [22] Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: [23] Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. [24] For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: [25] But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.”

The outcome of studying the bible results in us praising the LORD with our whole heart especially when we gather together as believers as we can see in verse 1.

Therefore let us, as it says in verse 10, fear (be in reverent awe of) the LORD, that me might not only know but understand and obey His word and praise His wonderful works and name forever.

Be encouraged today, to believe in Jesus Christ (availing yourself of His great redemption of your soul), start studying the Bible yourself and with others or continue to believe on Jesus Christ and deepen your study of the bible.
Let us all give glory and praise to Him, Who was, Who is and Who is to come.

“Revelation 1:5-8 (KJV) And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, [6] And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. [7] Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen. [8] I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.”
