Romans 7:7 (KJV) What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.
The one of the laws purposes is to expose sin. It teaches us GOD’s requirements and if we are honest realise that we can not fulfill them because of sin. Sin is missing the mark that GOD has set for us. This happened right in the beginning. “Genesis 2:16-17 (KJV) And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: [17] But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.” This was GOD’s requirement. “Genesis 3:6 (KJV) And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.”. Adam and Eve missed the mark.
“Galatians 3:23-25 (KJV) But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed. [24] Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. [25] But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.”.
Here we see the purpose of the law described as a schoolmaster. It teaches us GOD’s requirements and that we all have not been able to keep all of it and are under sin.
These days many people do not know right from wrong and even reveres it. Therefore when we share the gospel we need to point to peoples inability to meet GOD’s standard and that we all have sinned. In Romans 3:22-26 (KJV) it explains that we all have sinned and that it is only through faith in Jesus Christ and His work on the cross we can be mode right with GOD. “Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: [23] For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; [24] Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: [25] Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; [26] To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.”
Therefore be encouraged today to realise that we all have missed the mark. That we can not please good by whatever we try to do. That we need to totally rely on GOD’s grace, mercy and provision to enter the Kingdom of God. Be encouraged to put your faith in Jesus Christ and the fished work on the cross. “Matthew 5:3 (KJV) Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
If you already in faith of Jesus Christ be encouraged to remain in faith and not to be then justified by the works of the law again. “Galatians 5:1-4 (KJV) Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. [2] Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing. [3] For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law. [4] Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.”
Instead let us walk in the Spirit of GOD and do GOD’s work empowered by Him (not to be justified by the work and shelf effort but do the work because we love GOD and our neighbours). “Galatians 5:16 (KJV) This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.” “Galatians 5:22-26 (KJV) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, [23] Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. [24] And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. [25] If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. [26] Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.”
If we miss the mark let us keep short accounts with GOD and repent, as it says in 1 John 1:9 (KJV) “e-Sword If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
