2 Kings 6:21-23 (KJV)
21 And the king of Israel said unto Elisha, when he saw them, My father, shall I smite them? shall I smite them?
22 And he answered, Thou shalt not smite them: wouldest thou smite those whom thou hast taken captive with thy sword and with thy bow? set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink, and go to their master.
23 And he prepared great provision for them: and when they had eaten and drunk, he sent them away, and they went to their master. So the bands of Syria came no more into the land of Israel.
Jesus said “Matthew 5:43-48 (KJV) Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. [44] But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; [45] That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. [46] For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? [47] And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so? [48] Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.”.
Here in the Old Testament we have an example of blessing those who persecute you. They prepared a great feast not just provided just enough food and water. What a sight to see your enemies feasting.
When we love our enemies not only do we obey Jesus but can result in them stopping to bother us and even in their salvation. Therefore be encouraged today, if you face difficult people to bless them instead of cursing them. We can bless them in private prayer, being nice to them, and even going the second mile, that is doing more than what is necessary like what Israel did in preparing a great feast.
