Psalms 119:25 (KJV) DALETH. My soul cleaveth unto the dust: quicken thou me according to thy word.
The psalmist here is asking GOD to revive him according to GOD’s word. In other words He is praying “LORD I need to be revived as I am down and out and you have promised in your word to do this.
There are an immense number of promises in the Word of God for those who fear the LORD, obey Him. Jesus Christ Himself came to confirm the promise made to the fathers and the greatest is salvation, redemption, reconciliation. “Romans 15:8 (KJV) Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers:”
Here in Psalm 119 “according to thy word” is mentioned eight times.
- “Psa 119:9 BETH. Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.” This is the only one which asks us to do something. All the others are a request for GOD to do as He has promised. Our action here is to take heed of what the Word of God says.
A. Thanking heed it to obey and the most important thing to obey is the following “1 John 3:23-24 (KJV) And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. [24] And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.”. This is how we come into relationship with GOD. How we are reconciled, and redeemed.
B. Faith in Jesus Christ saves us. “Romans 10:9-13 (KJV) That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. [10] For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. [11] For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. [12] For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. [13] For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
C. Salvation is a gift of GOD that we need to receive by faith “John 3:16-21 (KJV) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. [17] For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. [18] He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. [19] And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. [20] For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. [21] But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.” - “Psa 119:25 DALETH. My soul cleaveth unto the dust: quicken thou me according to thy word.”. Here as mentioned before GOD’s promise is to revive us when we need revival and call out to Him in desperation.
- “Psa 119:41 VAU. Let thy mercies come also unto me, O LORD, even thy salvation, according to thy word.”. The LORD GOD almighty promises mercy and salvation.
- “Psa 119:58 I intreated thy favour with my whole heart: be merciful unto me according to thy word.”. GOD is so merciful that when we ask GOD for mercy He will give it.
- “Psa 119:76 Let, I pray thee, thy merciful kindness be for my comfort, according to thy word unto thy servant.”. When we need comfort and cry out to Him, He will comfort us. Look what Jesus Christ said: “John 14:16-17 (KJV) And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; [17] Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.”. WOW, praise the LORD. He is there by the Holy Spirit abiding with us forever always ready to give us comfort.
- “Psa 119:154 Plead my cause, and deliver me: quicken me according to thy word.”. He promises deliverance and to revive us. When we are in bondage of sin it is Jesus Christ who sets us free. He is the one who delivers us. We just need to call on Him and submit to Him.
- “Psa 119:169 TAU. Let my cry come near before thee, O LORD: give me understanding according to thy word.”. When we lack understanding we know that we can ask the LORD GOD to give us understanding.
- “Psa 119:170 Let my supplication come before thee: deliver me according to thy word.”. Let us not grow weary in asking GOD. “Matthew 7:7-8 (KJV) Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: [8] For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.”
Therefore be encouraged today to surrender to Jesus Christ and follow Him. being surrendered to Jesus Christ is praying and obeying. “Matthew 6:10 (KJV) Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.”. Let us not give up to ask Him (according to GOD’s will) who is faithful because He will do what He has promised. “1 John 5:14-15 (KJV) And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: [15] And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.”
