Luke 6:40 (KJV) The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master.
When we come to believe in Jesus Christ one of our main goals becomes to be more like Jesus Christ. He has become our LORD and Master. It is developing of character – the Frusts of the Holy Spirit “Galatians 5:22-25 (KJV) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, [23] Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. [24] And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. [25] If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”. How do we do this?
- By getting to know Him more and
- Then starting to emulate what He does in our life.
How do we get to know Him more?
- Prayer “Matthew 6:6 (KJV) But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.”
- Reading and studying the Bible (especially the New Testament) “1 Timothy 4:13-16 (KJV) Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. [14] Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery. [15] Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. [16] Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.”
- Gathering with other believers “Proverbs 27:17 (KJV) Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.”. This is a good way to discover once shortcomings. We also observer brothers and sisters on how they emulate Christ and can use that as an example “Philippians 3:17 (KJV) Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample.”.
- Surrendering to Jesus Christ every day “Romans 12:1-2 (KJV) I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. [2] And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”, “Luke 9:23 (KJV) And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.”
How do we emulate Him?
- When we face a situation we can ask ourselves “What would Jesus Christ do?”.
- Then we ask the Holy Spirit to help us, we recall scripture and or search the Bible.
- Then by fully trusting the LORD we step out in faith and do it.
- If we miss the mark we ask GOD to forgive us and help us next time.
Here is an example:
Someone hurts you and after some times comes and asks for forgiveness. The Holy Spirit brings us scriptures to remembrance we just read in the morning “Luke 6:36 (KJV) Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.” We search the scriptures about forgiveness and find “Matthew 6:14-15 (KJV) For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: [15] But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”. We then obey by forgiving and blessing the person emulating Jesus Christ reflecting GOD’s nature.
Therefore be encouraged every day to become more like Jesus by: applying the principles of prayer, studying the Word of God, gathering together, applying the Word of God by faith and trust in GOD under the leading of the Holy Spirit. Pau wrote “Philippians 3:12-17 (KJV) Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. [13] Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, [14] I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. [15] Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you. [16] Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing. [17] Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample.”
