Distress because of opposition – 2024.12.03

Psalms 120:1-7 (KJV)
1 A Song of degrees. In my distress I cried unto the LORD, and he heard me.
2 Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue.
3 What shall be given unto thee? or what shall be done unto thee, thou false tongue?
4 Sharp arrows of the mighty, with coals of juniper.
5 Woe is me, that I sojourn in Mesech, that I dwell in the tents of Kedar!
6 My soul hath long dwelt with him that hateth peace.
7 I am for peace: but when I speak, they are for war.
The psalmist, who is a man who loves peace, finds himself surrounded by people who love war and hate peace (Mesech are define to be a barbarous people who lived in the far north). People who love war often resort to lies and deceit.
Because of this the psalmist is in extreme distress. And in his distress he calls out to the LORD GOD Almighty to save him. He knows because of his relationship with the LORD that his cry has been heard and GOD will answer.

In these days we find ourself dwelling with people who believe in, celebrate, and practice the opposite to what is of GOD. This causes tension and persecution because we are followers of Jesus Christ and are in the world but not of it. “1 Peter 2:11-12 (KJV) Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; [12] Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.”

Therefore be encouraged today that when we are surrounded by those who are against Christ causing us to despair we can trust in Jesus Christ. For we can call on Him and He will answer. “Romans 10:13 (KJV) For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”, “Psalms 50:15 (KJV) And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.” And “Psalms 91:15 (KJV) He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.”
