Our prayer is like incense – 2024.12.24

Psalms 141:1-4 (KJV)
1 A Psalm of David. LORD, I cry unto thee: make haste unto me; give ear unto my voice, when I cry unto thee.
2 Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
3 Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.
4 Incline not my heart to any evil thing, to practise wicked works with men that work iniquity: and let me not eat of their dainties.

Our prayers are like incense offered before GOD. “Revelation 8:3-4 (KJV) And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne. [4] And the smoke of the incense, which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel’s hand.”. Lifting up our hands before GOD in prayer is like a sacrifice. We take our time and offer it to GOD with the petitions He places on our hearts. It is an act of surrender and worship.

The part of the psalmist prayer here gives us some good pointers in what we should pray.
Asking the LORD to help us to:

  • Be slow to speak and guard our mouth. “James 1:19 (KJV) Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:”
  • Not to think about evil things. “Philippians 4:8 (KJV) Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”
  • Not to practice wickedness by ourself and with others, instead practice godliness and. “1 Timothy 6:6 (KJV) But godliness with contentment is great gain.”
  • Not to be partakes with the wicked and their enjoyments. “Ephesians 5:6-11 (KJV) Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. [7] Be not ye therefore partakers with them. [8] For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: [9] (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;) [10] Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord. [11] And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.”

This reminded me of how Jesus Christ taught us to pray:
“Matthew 6:13 (KJV) And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.”

Therefore be encouraged to know that our prayers are like an offering, sacrifice, incense to GOD. Let us pray every day surrendering ourselves to the LORD calling on Him to help us to do what is right and good, giving us the strength to resist the devil. “James 4:7 (KJV) Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
