How long will my suffering continue? – 2025.02.08

Psalms 6:1-10 (KJV)
1 To the chief Musician on Neginoth upon Sheminith, A Psalm of David. O LORD, rebuke me not in thine anger, neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.
2 Have mercy upon me, O LORD; for I am weak: O LORD, heal me; for my bones are vexed.
3 My soul is also sore vexed: but thou, O LORD, how long?
4 Return, O LORD, deliver my soul: oh save me for thy mercies’ sake.
5 For in death there is no remembrance of thee: in the grave who shall give thee thanks?
6 I am weary with my groaning; all the night make I my bed to swim; I water my couch with my tears.
7 Mine eye is consumed because of grief; it waxeth old because of all mine enemies.
8 Depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity; for the LORD hath heard the voice of my weeping.
9 The LORD hath heard my supplication; the LORD will receive my prayer.
10 Let all mine enemies be ashamed and sore vexed: let them return and be ashamed suddenly.

There are times when we suffer because we have sinned, other times because of persecution by the devil, and other times because we live in a fallen world.
In this plasm David was suffering because of his sin and GOD was chastising him (see verse 1).
Whichever reason we suffer we can call on the LORD:

  • In humility telling Him how weak we are
  • Ask how long will this last,
  • Ask for His mercy,
  • Ask for Him to save us,
  • Complain to Him, telling Him that we can not take it anymore.

There is nothing wrong in asking GOD how long this will last. At the end David by faith and trust in the LORD declares that the LORD has heard his prayer and will answer.

Therefore let us be encouraged no matter what we are going through to call on the LORD GOD Almighty in humility and faith. Turn from our sin, ask for His mercy, telling Him how we feel, asking Him to save us.
For we know:
“Romans 10:13 (KJV) For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
“Psalms 34:6 (KJV) This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.”
