Psalms 16:2 (KJV) O my soul, thou hast said unto the LORD, Thou art my Lord: my goodness extendeth not to thee;
Here in this Psalm David declares the truth that our own goodness. “Romans 3:9-12 (KJV) What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin; [10] As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: [11] There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. [12] They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.”
My goodness extendeth not to thee; shows that no matter how good we try to be it will never meet GOD’s requirement and match His goodness.
Other translations render this as:
I have no good apart from you. (NRSVue )
Every good thing I have comes from you. (NLT)
apart from you I have no good thing. (NIV)
My goodness is nothing apart from You. (NKJV)
True goodness only comes from GOD and we need His goodness. Realising this shows that brings humility before GOD. Humility with the realisation that we are not good at all “Romans 7:18 (KJV) For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.”
Therefore let us be encouraged to not rely on our own perceived goodness but instead to rely on GOD’s goodness that was demonstrated through Jesus Christ. Let us put our trust in Him so that we receive His righteousness and goodness.
“Matthew 5:3 (KJV) Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
