Psalms 23:2 (KJV) He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
One place Jesus Christ leads us to is beside still waters. One thing to note here is that He does not lead us into the still waters.
What are the still waters?
Jesus talked about this:
“John 4:14 (KJV) But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.”
“John 7:37-39 (KJV) In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. [38] He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. [39] (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)”
The still water talks about the Holy Spirit and the Spirits influences and graces of the Spirit. His Spirit ministers to us in various ways, like waters – in the plural to cleanse, to refresh, to fertilise, to treasure. They are “still waters,” because the Holy Spirit loves peace, and does not sounds a trumpet when working. Also being still does not mean being stagnant. When water is stagnant it becomes contaminated. But in still waters is an undercurrent and will be refreshing, clear and uncontaminated. It reminds me of pure spring water. It is not a rushing current that will be dangerous to sheep if they drink and fall in. It is therefore not raging waves that bring strife but a stillness that brings us peace. “Psalms 46:10 (KJV) Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.”, “John 14:27 (KJV) Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
Therefore be encouraged today to let us be lead by our good Shepherd, Jesus Christ, to the refreshing waters of the Holy Spirit partaking of them. Even when we are besides the still waters we always have a choice to drink or not to drink.
“Acts 3:19 (KJV) Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;”
