Psalms 23:5 (KJV) Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
On top of what we discovered about the LORD Jesus Christ preparing a table before us in the presence of our enemies He also anoints our head with oil.
The anointing of oil on the head speaks of at least three things:
Today let us look at he first one. The anointing of the Holy Spirit.
The oil often represents the Holy Spirit in the scriptures. When David was anointed with oil on his head by Samuel the prophet the Holy Spirit came upon David from that moment onward. “1 Samuel 16:12-13 (KJV) And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him: for this is he. [13] Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.”
He was endowed with the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord. He does the same for all of us who believe today as well.
Therefore let us be encouraged today to be one hundred percent certain that when when will believe or when we started believing in the gospel of Jesus Christ that the Holy Spirit sent by Jesus Christ Himself will dwell in us. “Ephesians 1:13-14 (KJV) In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, [14] Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.”, “2 Timothy 1:14 (KJV) That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us.”
Not only do we have the promise of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit but us also promised us the baptism, continuous infilling of the Holy Spirit to empower us to do the work Jesus Christ has called us to.
Let us seek to be filled with the Holy Spirit on an ongoing basis as described in Acts 4:31 (KJV) “And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.”
