Psalms 23:5 (KJV) Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
The anointing of oil on the head speaks of at least three things:
Yesterday we looked briefly at the anointing of the Holy Spirit.
Today we will look at the second of them which speaks of the kingly anointing.
David was anointed king by GOD a long time before He actually became king.
“1 Samuel 16:12-13 (KJV) And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him: for this is he. [13] Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.”
Later He was anointed king over Judah and then even later over all of Israel.
“2 Samuel 2:4 (KJV) And the men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah. And they told David, saying, That the men of Jabeshgilead were they that buried Saul.”
“2 Samuel 5:3 (KJV) So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron; and king David made a league with them in Hebron before the LORD: and they anointed David king over Israel.”
Now through the work on the cross and by us having faith in Jesus Christ, He himself made us who believe also kings and priests.
“Revelation 1:5-6 (KJV) And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, [6] And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.”
Therefore let us be encouraged today that each one of us who believe have a kingly anointing. We will only see the fullness of this much later as Jesus Christ promised in Revelation 5:10 (KJV) “And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.” Until this time He is preparing us for this just like He prepared David. He did not have it easy and had many setbacks. As Jesus Christ was the Servant King here on earth so let us also walk in humility and servant hood seeking to Him who called us, letting Him work in us to His good pleasure.
“Philippians 2:13-16 (KJV) For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. [14] Do all things without murmurings and disputings: [15] That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; [16] Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.”
