1 Timothy 2:1-6 (KJV) I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; [2] For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. [3] For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; [4] Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. [5] For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; [6] Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
We are encouraged here by Paul to pray in various ways for everyone and especially those who govern. There are two reasons given here.
- One is that we might live a peaceful, godly and honest life and
- Two is that people come to know and follow Jesus Christ as their LORD and Saviour
Jesus Christ is the “John 14:6 (KJV) Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”. He is the only way anyone can be saved from their sin and the consequences of it which is eternal death. “Acts 16:31 (KJV) And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.”
Therefore let us do as exhorted by Paul to pray for people salvation and those who are in authority.
“1 Timothy 2:8 (KJV) I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.”
And let us not stop there but let our life (action and words) be a witness and godly example to those around us being ready to fulfil the mission the LORD Jesus Christ has given us.
“Matthew 28:19-20 (KJV) Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: [20] Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”
