Psalm 25 – Trusting in the LORD versus being treacherous/unfaithful – 2025.09.24

Psalms 25:1-22 (KJV)

1 A Psalm of David. Unto thee, O LORD, do I lift up my soul.

2 O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me.

3 Yea, let none that wait on thee be ashamed: let them be ashamed which transgress without cause.

4 Shew me thy ways, O LORD; teach me thy paths.

5 Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.

6 Remember, O LORD, thy tender mercies and thy lovingkindnesses; for they have been ever of old.

7 Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: according to thy mercy remember thou me for thy goodness’ sake, O LORD.

8 Good and upright is the LORD: therefore will he teach sinners in the way.

9 The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way.

10 All the paths of the LORD are mercy and truth unto such as keep his covenant and his testimonies.

11 For thy name’s sake, O LORD, pardon mine iniquity; for it is great.

12 What man is he that feareth the LORD? him shall he teach in the way that he shall choose.

13 His soul shall dwell at ease; and his seed shall inherit the earth.

14 The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant.

15 Mine eyes are ever toward the LORD; for he shall pluck my feet out of the net.

16 Turn thee unto me, and have mercy upon me; for I am desolate and afflicted.

17 The troubles of my heart are enlarged: O bring thou me out of my distresses.

18 Look upon mine affliction and my pain; and forgive all my sins.

19 Consider mine enemies; for they are many; and they hate me with cruel hatred.

20 O keep my soul, and deliver me: let me not be ashamed; for I put my trust in thee.

21 Let integrity and uprightness preserve me; for I wait on thee.

22 Redeem Israel, O God, out of all his troubles.

Yesterday we looked at lifting up our soul to the LORD in our devotions of Psalm 25.

Let’s have a look at what the difference between those who trust the LORD and those who deal treacherously/unfaithful is:

  • If we trust in the LORD we do not need to be ashamed (verse 3) bust those who are unfaithful will be ashamed. Jesus said in Matthew 7:24-27 (KJV) “Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: [25] And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. [26] And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: [27] And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.“. If we trust and obey the LORD our house will be built on the rock (Jesus) and when trouble comes we will not be ashamed but if we do not our life will collapse and one will be ashamed then,
  • When we trust in the lord we can walk with confidence not our own but confidence but confidence in the LORD therefore our eyes are toward the LORD (verses 15-16) on the other hand if we only have confidence in ourself that will fail and do not look to the LORD (see verse 3),
  • If we trust in the LORD we look to GOD to for salvation instead of at ourself, our own cunning/wisdom, other people and other things like riches. “Psalms 3:3-4 (KJV) But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head. [4] I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.”, “Psalms 20:6-8 (KJV) Now know I that the LORD saveth his anointed; he will hear him from his holy heaven with the saving strength of his right hand. [7] Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God. [8] They are brought down and fallen: but we are risen, and stand upright.”
  • When we trust in GOD we patiently wait on and for Him (verse 5) on the other hand one would not wait and take things in their own hand,
  • We will keep our word when we tust in the lord (verse 10) showing integrity, being consistent in what we say and do. People who are unfaithful only keep their word when it suits, there is no integrity. “Matthew 5:37 (KJV) But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.”
  • When we trust we can be 100% assured that He will redeems us (verse 22) if we don’t then who can save us, we have to pay the penalty of our sins by ourself. “John 3:16-21 (KJV) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. [17] For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. [18] He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. [19] And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. [20] For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. [21] But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.”

Therefore let us be encourage to put our trust in the LORD and keep on trusting in Him alone.
