Psalms 119:67 (KJV) Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept thy word.
Psalms 119:71 (KJV) It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes.
Let us be encouraged today to know that GOD doesn’t want us to go astray. He wants us to keep His word as this will be the best for us and those around us. Here we discover that the psalmist departed following the LORD but that the affliction that followed brought Him to his senses and started to again learn GOD’s ways and walk in obedience to Jesus Christ instead of rebellion.
Jesus said in Revelation 3:19 (KJV) “As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.”
Hebrews 12:6-11 (KJV) explains it well “For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. [7] If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? [8] But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. [9] Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? [10] For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. [11] Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.”
Let us pray. Father I thank you for your love and that because of your love you bring chastisement if we go astray. Help me to always to learn and walk in your ways and not to stray. As I submit to You, You will give me the ability and strength to resist the devil, his demons and the flesh with all the temptations and walk in obedience to You with victory over sin living a holy life.
In Jesus name.
“James 4:7 (KJV) Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
Here is another devotion that covers this too:
