Matthew 6:19-24 (KJV)
19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.
23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

Continuing on from yesterdays devotion “two types of riches” see “https://missioncommunities.network/2026/03/03/two-types-of-riches-2026-03-03/”, let us look more at the third which are treasures in heaven.

How do we lay up treasures in heaven? It it by seeking first the Kingdom of God and the righteousness that comes by faith in Jesus Christ. This is what has eternal value. “Proverbs 11:4 (KJV) Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death.”
It is by following and being obedient to Jesus Christ. These treasures are derived by or work that is derived from faith here on earth. It is not our salvation which is by faith. “Ephesians 2:10 (KJV) For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”.

Let us be encouraged to lay up treasures in heaven. When we do this we are assured that GOD Himself will provide for us here on earth.
“Matthew 6:32-34 (KJV) (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. [33] But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. [34] Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.”

Let us pray. Father, help me to seek first the Kingdom of God and the righteousness that comes form Jesus Christ. This is what is more important than striving for riches here on earth. Help me to be a good steward of the things that you have proved for me here on earth. Sow me the things that you like me to do every day to be a blessing and not a curse to those around me. In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
