Here we have one of the keys of truly repenting from sin (departing from it) and overcoming temptation. It is by the fear of the LORD. This is having such a reverence of, respect for GOD that one only wants to please and obey Him and dread to go and do anything that the LORD GOD almighty showed us is evil.

Therefore let us be encouraged to always fear the LORD above all else, to submit to Him, to obey Him and walk in His ways. As we are the temple of the Holy Spirit and GOD dwells in us let us do as He advised king Solomon when he build the temple: “1 Kings 6:12 (KJV) Concerning this house which thou art in building, if thou wilt walk in my statutes, and execute my judgments, and keep all my commandments to walk in them; then will I perform my word with thee, which I spake unto David thy father:” https://bible.com/bible/116/1ki.6.12
In James 4:7 (KJV) it says “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” https://bible.com/bible/116/jas.4.7
When we depart and stays away from evil, we then preserve our soul so that it is not corrupted again. “Proverbs 16:17 (KJV) The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: he that keepeth his way preserveth his soul.” https://bible.com/bible/116/pro.16.17

Let us pray. Father I turn away from the sin You have shown me, that I keep on committing. Empower me by the Holy Spirit to depart and stay away from it. Help me to fear You and let my life honour and glorify You always. Help me to know what You want me to do and to obey it. In the name of my LORD and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen.
