Psalms 23:3 (KJV) He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
In the verse 2 we discovered that Jesus Christ the good Shepard leaders us besides still waters. Here in verse 3 we see that He leads us again but this time in the paths of righteousness. In verse one we discovered that we have no want because He takes care of us. They are all related and show the work of Jesus Christ in our life.
What is righteousness? Thayer’s Definition:
1) in a broad sense: state of him who is as he ought to be, righteousness, the condition acceptable to God
1a) the doctrine concerning the way in which man may attain a state approved of God
1b) integrity, virtue, purity of life, rightness, correctness of thinking feeling, and acting
2) in a narrower sense, justice or the virtue which gives each his due
Jesus Christ purchased salvation on the cross for everyone who believes. He has become our righteousness. “2 Corinthians 5:21 (KJV) For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”.
Now He wants us to walk in that righteousness.
Because we are now in Christ, He leads us to live a life that reflects His righteousness. As our soul is being restored we will more and more walk in righteousness. We will more and more walk according in a way acceptable to GOD, in other words, doing the will of GOD. GOD leads us in that way not just for our sake but for His own sake that He might receive all the glory.
Therefore let us be encouraged today to let Jesus Christ lead us in His ways and we walk in them. Let us want to be well pleasing to Him and desire to glorify Him in our life.
