1 Timothy 3:16 (KJV) And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
In 1 Timothy 3 two mysteries are mentioned the first as we read above is the mystery of godliness and then there is the mystery of faith.
“1 Timothy 3:9 (KJV) Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.”
These both hinge on Jesus Christ:
- GOD born in human flesh “Matthew 1:23 (KJV) Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.”,
- Walking amount us, showing us GOD, “John 14:6-7 (KJV) Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. [7] If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.”,
- Justifying those who have faith in Him, through the shedding of His blood on the cross. “Romans 5:9 (KJV) Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.”, “Romans 3:28 (KJV) Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.”,
- Preaching of the gospel of Christ to everyone, “Romans 10:15 (KJV) And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!”
- Believed in. Not everyone will believe, many will reject Jesus Christ, “Romans 10:8-11 (KJV) But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; [9] That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. [10] For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. [11] For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.”, “Romans 10:16-17 (KJV) But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? [17] So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
- Jesus ascended to heaven, “Luke 24:50-51 (KJV) And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them. [51] And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.” and
- Seated on the right had of the Father “Ephesians 1:19-23 (KJV) And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, [20] Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, [21] Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: [22] And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, [23] Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.”
The mystery of godliness and faith is so great that very much all of the bible talks about it. Therefore let us be encouraged to believe in Jesus Christ, walk in Him by faith and live a godly life. For He, Jesus Christ, made it all possible for everyone through the finished work of the cross and empowers us by His Holy Spirit to live that life for Him.
“1 Timothy 4:7-8 (KJV) But refuse profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness. [8] For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.”
“1 Timothy 6:6 (KJV) But godliness with contentment is great gain.”
“James 2:17-18 (KJV) Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. [18] Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.”
