Mark 7:20-23 (KJV)
20 And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man.
21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,
22 Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:
23 All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.

The heart is what we need need to have renewed. When our heart is pure then our actions will in turn be good. If we try to change our action and leave our heart in its current state then we will not succeed and will revert back to doing what is in our heart.
We can not change our heart only Jesus Christ by the work of the Holy Spirit can do that transformation through His living Word. “2 Corinthians 3:18 (NKJV) But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.” https://bible.com/bible/116/2co.3.18

Therefore let us be encouraged to come to the LORD, to believe in Jesus Christ repent from our sins and ask Him to search and renew our heart.

Let us pray. Father we come to You in the precious name of Jesus Christ. Search my heart and show me any wickedness that is in me and by your power renew my mind. Grant me repentance, that I might walk in your ways and not in wickedness.
